SPRING HILL — Words were exchanged, a pocketbook was thrown at a pickup, and a man and several women went at each other outside a 7-Eleven store with Mace and a can of boiled peanuts, deputies say.

When it was all settled, the Tuesday morning brawl left several people with minor injuries and criminal citations, and nearly 25 braided hair extensions strewn across the parking lot.

A Sheriff's Office report gives this account:

The trouble started about 1 a.m. outside the convenience store at 6016 Spring Hill Drive as Marshall and Gloria Corulla walked out with milk and eggs.

The Corullas said two women in a Ford Explorer, later identified as Phyllis Hoskin and Kathleen Infante, said "something slick" to their 38-year-old daughter, Dawn Deleon.

Infante, in turn, accused Deleon of calling them "skanks" and asking them, "What are you monkeys looking at?" the report says.

Moments later, as the Corullas drove off, one of the women allegedly threw a silver pocketbook that struck the family's pickup.

Corulla turned his pickup around, pulled behind the Explorer and got out. As he approached the SUV, Hoskin sprayed him with Mace, the report says.

Gloria Corulla and Deleon rushed in, and Mrs. Corulla also got a face of Mace. Infante's mother, Patricia Infante-Penney, ran from inside the store to join the fracas, police say.

During the altercation, Infante allegedly struck more than one person with a can of boiled peanuts, but she wasn't exactly sure whom she hit. Hoskin had about 25 braided hair extensions ripped from her head during the scuffle.

A witness gave a version of events that backed Marshall Corulla and provided a sworn written statement. The Corullas, Deleon, Hoskin, Infante and Infante-Penney were each issued misdemeanor citations for rioting and criminal mischief.

Deputies noted that Infante-Penney gave them a false last name and signed her misdemeanor citation with a signature of "(expletive) you."

The entire world is off its rocker, and Central FL is on the bleeding edge of the insanity. This kind of stuff wouldn't even make the news in Polk County, as it's an everyday event here. Springeresque drama at its worst. God, I gotta move.

Hernando/Pasco/Polk/Citrus = redneck/local crime capital of our area. Check the news: I would bet at least 80% of the bizarre or criminal in Tampa Bay happens in these counties. I wouldn't live up there if someone paid me.

I, for one, love boiled peanuts!! They are a delectable, tastey treat day or night. I can't wait for the chance to through a can of them at someone, so they to, can taste the greatness of a Hawks Jumbo Boiled Peanut (cajun, original and now jalapeno)

Yeah, gotta blame it on somebody. Can't see why anyone from NY would bother to move down there to Red Neck City -- ya'll sure got enough fools without any outside help at all -- but blame it on the New Yorkers anyhow.

boiled peanuts, hair extensions, "monkeys", clearly a group of people with fair complections.

The fact that she had a Silver Pocket book, Speaks Volumes!!
by Caroline Aug 17, 2008 7:23 PM
What a good laugh I had. Thanks for the drama. Please don't bring it south though. It will be viewed as a conspiracy. By the way, the mother signing her name might be the only one telling it the way it is. No respect.

Tell you what,,,,a lot of bad examples by low class parents as well explains of lot of it...can you spell trailer park?
by Ann Aug 17, 2008 7:20 PM
Why turn around and go back? Why not simply go home? You also could have easily stopped and picked up the woman's purse and taken it to the police department.

I grew up here in the 70s when it was nice. Cows were grazing on Deltona. Then the NYers came and ruined it.
by Bobbert Aug 16, 2008 3:11 PM
They could've done this on Jerry Springer.
by Eric Aug 16, 2008 3:11 PM
This is a masterfully written article - an instant classic sure to be passed along via e-mail and posted to news of the odd web sites for years to come.
by Dave Aug 15, 2008 4:23 PM
This is horrible. Those extensions are really expensive. What a complete waste of some boiled peanuts. Hernando needs a county law making it illegal to waste boiled peanuts. Especially Cajun!
by Joe Aug 15, 2008 11:54 AM
This article is a great example of why I consider Spring Hill to be the twilight zone. Hernando County to me is everything east of the Parkway and west of 19. Everything between that is southern NYC/Jersey and should be annexed by Port Richey.
by Sasha Aug 15, 2008 10:17 AM
So disusting! This type of behavior did not occur before the big real estate "BOOM". People like this need to go!
by local Aug 14, 2008 7:43 PM
what do you want to bet most of these folks came here from New York - just like most of Spring Hill
by jay Aug 14, 2008 3:20 PM
This sounds like like the events that go on at cvs,It's expected there.
by Mac Aug 14, 2008 3:20 PM
I wish the article had a diagram to sort everyone out, even the one girl got confused what her own name was signing the citation.
by joni Aug 14, 2008 3:20 PM

by Jason Aug 14, 2008 3:20 PM
