Alyson Perry-
Jarvis, 36, is accused of having sex with a boy, now 18, since the summer of 2006.
LARGO — An elementary school teacher was arrested Wednesday accused of having a two-year sexual relationship with a teen.
Alyson Perry-Jarvis, 36, a third-grade teacher at Southern Oak Elementary School in Largo, became acquainted with the boy through neighborhood and family connections when he was 15. She engaged the victim in sexual activity in July 2006, when he was 16, and it continued until August 2008, investigators said.
The young man, now 18, reported Perry-Jarvis to the Sheriff's Office on Sept. 19.
"He realized what she was doing was wrong," sheriff's spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda said.
Perry-Jarvis of 504 Sheridan Drive in Palm Harbor faces one charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a charge for which consent is not a defense.
According to alumni notes, Perry-Jarvis is a graduate of Baptist-affiliated Samford University in Alabama. The notes also say she and her husband have a son.
Perry-Jarvis will not be paid while she is in jail, said Pinellas County schools spokeswoman Andrea Zahn. After her release, she will be on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a school district investigation.
The Pinellas County School District hired Perry-Jarvis on Nov. 11, 2000. She has one disciplinary action in her personnel file, a letter of caution from March 2008 that discussed problems with colleagues and a disparaging remark, Zahn said.
Times researcher Shirl Kennedy contributed to this report. Stephanie Garry can be reached at (727) 892-2374 or sgarry@sptimes.com.

Who cares that it took the kid 2 years to come forward! He probably grew up and realized...hey, I was young when this started. She took advantage! He was a minor! NO EXCUSES!!!! Why aren?t we hearing the whole story? Where is the coverage on this???

The entire situation has not been printed, nor should it be. Crucial info is missing as the media does not have all the info re: this case. Do not pass judgment until all the evidence is known. But then what would you have to gossip about?

Someone made a comment about consequences. No question that what she did was wrong. She should and WILL be punished. But it's hard not to wonder why the young man, now 18, waited two years to come forward.

My son has attended this school for 4 years. They have a new Principal this year and I understand that he is still trying to get settled into the school, but I am a bit concerned about the lack of response from the school and district. What next?

Everyone involved has suffered. I am choosing to pray for these people, anger and fingerpointing at this time - counter-productive. May justice prevail, tempered by mercy and grace. NO one knows the whole story.
