SHADY HILLS — Tasha Evans stood on Oxenham Avenue Thursday morning, sobbing.

Family members consoled her while neighbors gathered nearby. Crime scene tape crisscrossed the long narrow road.

Detectives from the Pasco Sheriff's Office milled about. They were investigating a shooting that killed Evans' brother, Cory Lynn Evans, 21, and injured two others.

"He's a person who cared about people," said Tasha Evans, 23. "It's not fair."

Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a home invasion just before 5 a.m. at 18236 Oxenham Ave., just south of County Line Road.

Neighbors say the home has a reputation for drug activity. Sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll declined to release information on any previous 911 calls to that address.

"We're not releasing them at this time because it could pertain to the active investigation," Doll said. "We're not commenting on any prior history at the house."

Cory Evans of Hudson, had spent the night at the home to visit family, Tasha Evans said.

Cory's cousin, Kenneth Evans, 25, of Spring Hill, and an unidentified man — a "possible suspect," Doll said — were also shot at the home. Both were treated at a local hospital.

Doll wouldn't discuss a motive for the shooting or details about the unidentified man.

"It's preliminary information at this point — that the possible suspect is at least one person who broke into the house," Doll said.

Cory's mother, Donna Evans, said Kenneth Evans was involved with drugs. Records show he has been arrested numerous times, with convictions for grand theft, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Mrs. Evans said Cory was in the wrong place at the wrong time on Thursday.

"I think people were after him (Kenneth) for drugs or money, and they went in there to kill somebody," she said. "That's what they did. They weren't after Cory. He was just there."

Property records show the mobile home is owned by Chuck Lamberton — Kenneth and Cory Evans' uncle.

Lamberton, 23, wasn't at the Oxenham Avenue home at the time of the shooting, Doll said. Lamberton was arrested Thursday afternoon on a charge of simple assault on a law enforcement officer. He was held in lieu of $250 bail at the Land O'Lakes Jail.

To notstupid, you must be from the wrong side of the family but Donna and her family are good people. At least they know how to tell their kid's that they are loved. Not used to draw money from the state or dealing in drug's!

I know the Evans family, Corey was a great person. I pretty much grew up down the road from them. Good people and its sad that people bash them yet do not know nothing about them/him. Corey was a good guy and a great person. R.I.P

How can all you people be so judgemental??? This is just another sign of our societies' ignorance! This killing is totally unjustifiable...Cory was a good kid and you would only know that if you knew him!!!R.I.P CORY..WE WILL MISS YOU!!!!!
by Lisa Oct 17, 2008 6:11 PM
And as far as all of you judgemental people passing that judgment think how you would feel if some crazy lunatic came into your home and you were innocent but people were making accusations about your loved one. That's what is wrong with our world!
by Myth Buster Oct 17, 2008 6:02 PM
Wanna cast blame? Okay! The deputies catch all of the players here one time or another, all have felony records, but none are in Jail. The judges keep letting them out, even after conviction, but it is the parents or Sheriff to blame? Poppycock...
by Concerned Friend Oct 17, 2008 5:56 PM
you people keep trying to make these men(kenneth & corey) look like saints they sold meth for christ sakes!! its karma what goes around comes around & it was there come around sorry its harsh but it is what it is & its sad that sum1 had to die

Spoken like a true FOP member, Nagster, stop spreading lies and let this family greive. FOP Politics against the sheriff is out of control, is nothing sacred. Get a life you guys.
by John Oct 17, 2008 5:08 PM
CONCERNED NEIGHBOR: You can call all you want, you will not find a deputy and the sheriff does not care. Move to Hernando, it is safer there!
by MEP Oct 17, 2008 5:05 PM
This is a child here that lost his life. He was just starting his life who are you to cast stones? Are you a Saint I think nott. Well my prayer's to the family. And to the jack_ss's that are so ignorant I will pray for u'r ingnorance to be lifted.
by Kelly Oct 17, 2008 3:29 PM
Dont blame the sherrif of Pasco for the high crime rates.. Anyone been in that part of spring hill??.. Its nothing but drugs and crimes. Most of them are low lives who don't have a job and having nothing to do besides get high and drunk.
by stare Oct 17, 2008 3:29 PM
i am corys uncle in the state of okla and this comes as a complete surprise i just lost a grand son and now this my god when are they going to put that excon where he belongs, my heart goes out to my brother and sisterinlaw this is a big blow
by Fed Up Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
What about when they want drugs so bad they rob your cars! We had over 20 car burglaries out here. Jessie Gabbard was arrested for 12 burglaries. He was on probation and whaddya know his family lives out here.Has anyone been caught yet?
by Frank Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
This is a terrible crime, but why does the paper continue to label locations outside of Spring Hill, as Spring Hill? I see this all the time. Spring Hill does not reside in Pasco county.
by Concerned Relative Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
Corey was a great kid and had become a fine young man. He had the best parent's that cared deeply for their children, no finer parent could he have had. My heart goes out to our family at this time of grief. I love you all.
by MIKE Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
Live by the sword die by the sword. If you have any questiond go to the pasoc sheriffs websit and check the arrest records on all involved parties. Yes its a tragedy any time a young person dies, but there are no "inocent victims here!
by Concerned Neighbor Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
how many times do neighbors have to call the cops on these types of people before they do something? I have 2 young children living in my home and we work and pay taxes and get no response from PCSD! Thanks again. Could be prevented! I'm moving..soon
by FlyingDutchman Oct 17, 2008 3:28 PM
After three consecutive tours in the Middle East, one would think when coming home there would be some peace. Seven years away from Pasco and it has only grown worse.
by frank Oct 17, 2008 3:27 PM
what's to untangle? shady hills recipe: take drugs, guns, white trash, and punks - mix well and serve.
by Lisa Oct 17, 2008 3:27 PM
Nothing for Nothing but how would anyone feel if someone broke into there home and lost someone that they loved.Have some compassion, this young man was still a human being and my heart and prayers are with his family people need not to pass judgement
by ENJIE Oct 17, 2008 3:04 PM
All of you people are so judgemental! This is just another sign of our societies' ignorance! This killing of Cory is totally unjustifiable! Drugs or no drugs he did not deserve this. Cory was a good kid, and you would only know that if you knew him!
