SHADY HILLS — Pasco County deputies have arrested a 19-year-old man in the shooting death last month of a man during a home-invasion robbery in Shady Hills.
Calvin Leon Washington of Brooksville was charged Saturday with first-degree murder and attempted murder for his role in the fatal shooting of Cory Lynn Evans at a home at 18236 Oxenham Ave., near County Line Road on the Hernando County border.
Washington told investigators that he and two other men hatched a plan to rob the people in the home of their drugs and money. The three men converged on the home just before 5 a.m. Oct. 16, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Once the men got inside the home, Evans and his cousin, Kenneth Sheridan Evans, confronted them. From there, "the robbery went bad," Washington told investigators.
Cory Evans, 21, of Hudson was fatally shot in the head. Kenneth Evans, 25, was shot three times and flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with serious injuries. One of the suspects was shot once in the back and taken to Spring Hill Regional Hospital by Washington and the other suspect, according to the arrest report.
A pair of unidentified witnesses told investigators that Washington told them that he and his two co-conspirators had committed the robbery and shooting. On Saturday, Washington led a detective back to the Shady Hills home and confessed to the crimes.
Kevin Doll, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said detectives aren't releasing the names of the other two suspects and that more suspects are being sought. There have been no other arrests in the case.
"There are additional people that we're searching for," Doll said Sunday. "But the investigation is ongoing and there's not much more we can say about that."
Washington was being held without bail Sunday at the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes.
Washington has an extensive criminal record, having been arrested at least nine times in Pasco and Hernando counties. He's been charged with a number of crimes, including possession of a controlled substance, grand theft auto, and lewd and lascivious molestation.

CALVIN WASHINGTON IS A VERY GOOD PERSON HE JUST GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE WRONG CROWD. MAYBE HE DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN HIS LIFE TO POINT HIM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. IF HE HAD A CHANCE TO TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME HE WOULD MAKE BETTER CHOICES.

Only 9 arrests? No wonder this scumbag is able to walk the streets and eventually kill someone. How many arrests should you have under your belt to be considered "dangerous"? We need new judges on the bench if this is what can roam the streets.
