HOLIDAY — Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle that they believe may have struck an 18-year-old pedestrian early Thursday morning and then drove away.

Michael Eberl, of New Port Richey, was found with critical injuries in a grassy shoulder along Mile Stretch Drive near Ranchita Trail just before 2:30 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Eberl suffered injuries to his head and face and a cut on his left hand, the report said. Those injuries convinced Pasco sheriff's deputies that Eberl may have been the victim of an assault.

But after reviewing surveillance footage, investigators now believe that Eberl may have been struck by an unidentified vehicle. The FHP did not release any other information about the victim's condition.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the FHP at (813) 631-4020.
