TAMPA — Hillsborough sheriff's deputies are searching for two men they believed tried to rob several University of South Florida students at gunpoint during a party March 27.

One man was hosting some of his fraternity brothers and a few other students at a condo complex on Sunridge Palms Drive about 3:50 a.m., authorities said. He told investigators he heard a knock on the door and opened it, assuming it was more friends coming to the party.

There were two men outside, authorities said, one with a rifle. The student began to shut his door, but the rifle stuck through a crack and the robbers fired one shot, deputies said. The bullet did not hit anyone and no one was injured, according to CrimeStoppers Tampa Bay, which is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the suspects' arrest.

They are described as being in their early 20s, both about 5-feet-9. One wore long shorts, tan boots and a gray hooded sweatshirt, authorities said. The other had on a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a bandana that covered the lower half of his face.

No further information was immediately available.
