Bank robber gives up when no one gives him money

LUTZ — Just after 4 p.m. Friday, the bank robber parked his sports car across the street and walked toward the bank wearing a pink mask and gloves.

He had a gun.

Sensing this guy was up to no good, someone inside First Bank saw him coming and locked the door, authorities said. The man somehow broke the door lock and managed to get inside the building at 21708 State Road 54.

"He demanded money but everybody was hiding," said Kevin Doll, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

"When no one came out to give him any money, he just left."

No one was injured in the robbery attempt, Doll said. He urged anyone with information about the crime to call the Pasco Sheriff's Office at (727) 844-7711. The tips line is 1-800-706-2488. Information can be left anonymously.

Doll said the suspect is believed to have fled in an older model Nissan 300ZX or 240ZX.
