FOWLER, Ind. — Police in northwestern Indiana investigating a Florida woman's disappearance confirm human remains have been found in the back yard of her recently deceased daughter's home.

The Journal & Courier reports Fowler police Chief Dennis Rice said in a news release Sunday that the remains uncovered Saturday were human but the gender, age and identity of the remains and the cause of death haven't been determined.

But Benton County Sheriff Butch Pritchett told television station WLFI on Saturday that the body of Nena Metoyer, 68, of Dunedin had been found at the Fowler home. A request for comment was left for Pritchett Sunday at the sheriff's department.

Metoyer was reported missing Sept. 24. She had traveled to Fowler, about 70 miles south of Gary, in August to care for her ailing daughter.
