Body of missing Hernando County woman found by hunter

Sheriff's detectives in Hernando and Levy counties are investigating the death of a Hernando County woman whose decomposing body was found Friday by a hunter in Levy.

The remains were identified Sunday as Deanna Lee Stires, 18, who was reported missing on Jan. 1. Her body was found in a wooded area east of Otter Creek off State Road 24.

Levy County is north of Hernando and Citrus counties on the Gulf Coast.

Stires was identified after an autopsy by the Medical Examiners Office in Gainesville. Investigators are working to identify the cause of her death and have released no other information about the case.
