Bomb squad destroys 'destructive device' discovered in New Port Richey home

NEW PORT RICHEY — A police bomb squad detonated a "destructive device" found inside a New Port Richey home Saturday.

Police received a report at 2 p.m. Saturday that a person with an active arrest warrant might be inside the house at 5820 Pine St., said police spokesman Lt. Arthur Madden. Detectives suspected that the person might have weapons and a "destructive device" inside, he said.

Officers arrived at the house and found it empty. The area nearby was evacuated as the Tampa police bomb squad arrived to search the house with a robot, Madden said.

The bomb squad retrieved a device and safely detonated it, Bay News 9 reported.

Police were searching Saturday night for Harlin Miller Jr., 25, who they described as a person of interest in the incident.
