Man jailed in sexual assault, kidnapping

A Brooksville man kidnapped a woman and forced her to have sex with him last week, police say.

The woman told Brooksville detectives that Leonard Lenon Jones, 50, drove her Thursday night to a secluded area near Hale and Hendricks avenues, choked her, battered her and threatened to kill her if she didn't have sex with him, according to a news release.

The woman told detectives she has known Jones for about a year and that she had asked him to drive her to a friend's house. He refused once she got into Jones' vehicle on East Avenue, the release said.

Jones, of 7661 Gordon Loop, was arrested Friday and charged with kidnapping and sexual assault. He remained in the Hernando County Detention Center on Tuesday in lieu of $40,000 bail.
