Bullet grazes hotel clerk's head during robbery in Ruskin

RUSKIN — A hotel clerk was hospitalized early Monday after a bullet grazed her head during a robbery, officials said.

The robbery at the Ruskin Inn at 3113 E College Ave. happened around 3:30 a.m., Hillsborough Sheriff's officials said. A hotel clerk, Shanna R. Borovich, 32, said she was in the lobby when she got a call from a man who said he was staying at the hotel and couldn't sleep because there was noise outside his room.

Borovich walked down the hallway to the back of the hotel and opened the door to the pool area, where she was confronted by an armed man.

He forced her to walk toward a nearby woods.

Borovich told detectives she heard gunshots, one of which apparently grazed her head.

The robber, wearing a black mesh cloth over part of his face, demanded she lie on the ground before walking into the hotel and taking money, deputies said.

When the man left, Borovich called 911. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she was in stable condition.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200, or Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477.
