Burglar sets fire to Pasco home after confronted, deputies say

ZEPHYRHILLS — A man caught burglarizing a Pasco County home barricaded himself in a bedroom and set it afire rather than surrender, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

Just before midnight on Friday, deputies responded to a "burglary in progress" call at 5102 Court St., Zephyrhills. The person who lived in the home fled to a neighbor's house before deputies arrived.

Deputies said they saw Edward Glenn, 28, inside the residence. As deputies entered, Glenn barricaded himself in a bedroom and then set it on fire, deputies said.

Deputies managed to get into the room. But Glenn resisted arrest and was shot with a Taser, deputies said. The suspect continued to fight after being handcuffed, kicking and trying to bite deputies, the Sheriff's Office said.

Glenn was taken to a hospital and was sedated, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office did not say how badly the fire damaged the home. Glenn's hometown also was not released.
