California sex offender arrested after being on lam for 10 years

TAMPA – A California man missing for 10 years after arrest on child sex charges was found by U.S. marshals Tuesday at a Riverview home.

Charles Edward Hays, age unknown, was arrested without incident at 8215 Stoner Road. Officials say Hays obtained a Florida drivers license April 6 under the name of Charles Edward Edland. That helped lead law enforcement to his whereabouts.

Officials say Hays was charged in 2000 in Riverside, Calif., with three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. Hays posted bail but never returned for his court hearing.

A felony warrant was issued for his arrest on those charges in 2001. Authorities didn't know where Hays was until recently.

Hays was taken to jail after his arrest and eventually will be extradited to California.
