TAMPA — Charges against a Wimauma man have been upgraded to manslaughter after authorities say the victim he severely beat later died.
Erin Robinson, 19, was initially arrested on an attempted murder charge after he beat Raul Ortiz, 58, on Aug. 11 over sexual comments Ortiz had made to Robinson's girlfriend earlier that day in a store, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said.
Ortiz was taken to a hospital where he received treatment, but he died two days later. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Ortiz's death to be a homicide from "blunt impacts to the head with fractures of the skull and contusions to the spinal cord," according to a search warrant affidavit filed Wednesday.
Robinson was released in September from the Hillsborough County Jail on $22,500 bail.
