CLEARWATER — A bookkeeper at a local air conditioning business is accused of fraudulently padding her paychecks for nearly a year.
Police on Thursday arrested Melissa Foley, 32, of Seminole, on charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud. She was released from the Pinellas County Jail hours later on a surety bond.
Officials said Foley worked at Air West Air Conditioning, 2111 Sunnydale Blvd.
In addition to her regular direct deposit paychecks, officials said, Foley also paid herself almost weekly with "fraudulently obtained" payroll checks.
She took about $33,000 between Nov. 24, 2010 and Nov. 7, 2011, officials said.
No other details about the scheme were available.
