ST. PETERSBURG —A man accused of an Oct. 21 home invasion turned himself into authorities Thursday, police said.

Khampher Phakeovilay, 29, of 1329 Byron Drive in Clearwater, was taken into custody at police headquarters. His family, who had urged him to turn himself in after they saw his image, was with him.

Police say Phakeovilay forced his way into 2538 28th St. N at 7:34 p.m. that day, showed a handgun and asked for money. He put a gun to a woman's head and walked her to a back bedroom.

The robber kicked in the bedroom door, took a laptop and ran away. A short time later, he approached someone in the neighborhood and tried to sell the laptop.

The person became suspicious and took a photo of the man, which was sent out to local media and the public.
