LARGO — A Clearwater man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexually assaulting a teenage girl over the course of four years, police said.
Tony Wells, 45, told detectives on Feb. 15, in a phone conversation that he raped the girl, according to authorities.
Immediately after confessing, Wells lived for almost a week in area shelters and homeless camps. He was arrested on Feb. 22.
Wells began to molest the girl when she was in sixth grade, or about 12 or 13 years old, police said earlier this year.
He was sentenced to almost 12 years in state prison and will be registered as a sexual predator.
