CLEARWATER — Two Clearwater men accused of forcing a 16-year-old girl into prostitution last year face sex trafficking charges, according to a federal complaint filed this week in the Middle District of Florida.
Gerald Eugene Mayham, 40, and Joel Raymond Nauta, 23, have been charged with sex trafficking of children and conspiracy to engage in the sex trafficking of children.
According to the complaint, the girl told investigators in August that Mayham and Nauta offered her marijuana, Xanax, alcohol and cocaine. Eventually, Mayham began prostituting the girl in her Clearwater apartment complex, the complaint states, and took her to other parts of Clearwater to have sex with men.
The girl also told investigators that Mayham and Nauta threatened her and physically assaulted her.
Mayham has been in jail since Sept. 5 on charges of child abuse and procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution.
He and Nauta remained at the Pinellas County jail Friday.
