Police officer shoots, kills charging pit bull
A police officer was forced to shoot and kill a pit bull Saturday evening because the dog kept charging at him, authorities said. A Clearwater officer was dispatched to the 2100 block of NE Coachman Road, just west of Belcher Road, shortly after 6 p.m. to investigate a complaint about an aggressive dog. Upon his arrival, the pit bull charged the officer multiple times and refused to back down even after the officer used a baton. The officer fired his handgun, killing the dog. The officer was not injured.
