CLEARWATER — Officers didn't need to search long to find pot inside a car recently, not when the stem of a marijuana plant was protruding out a window.

Police had noticed the Pontiac G6 on Ottawa Road and Lake Avenue on July 24 without its headlights on and stopped the car about a mile away on Boylan Avenue.

The driver was Allen Thomas Barnes, 19. Next to him was 20-year-old Justin J. Goodloe. A third passenger bolted from the car.

Inside, officers found several marijuana plants. Goodloe told police they stole them from an acquaintance who owed him more than $100 in drug money.

Barnes and Goodloe, both of Clearwater, face charges of manufacturing marijuana and were booked into the Pinellas County jail, but were released the next day.
