CLEARWATER — Detectives were investigating a sexual assault reported at the Sheraton Sand Key on Thursday afternoon, where a woman accused a law enforcement officer of raping her, police said Friday.
Police responded to the hotel at 1160 Gulf Blvd. about noon Thursday after a 32-year-old woman said she had been raped between Wednesday night and early Thursday in a second-floor room.
She accused an officer attending a training conference for the International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators. Clearwater police did not release the officer's name or department Friday, but said he is not from the Tampa Bay area.
The investigation remained under way.
