CLEARWATER — Investigators are looking for a man police say robbed a convenience store and struck the clerk in the head with a cash drawer Thursday morning.

The robber walked into a Speedway convenience store at 2577 Harn Boulevard about 5 a.m. and demanded money, according to Clearwater police. The male clerk refused, police said, so the man took the cash drawer and tried to walk out of the store.

The clerk stopped him at the door, and the robber then used the drawer to strike the clerk in the head, police said. The 56-year-old clerk, who was not identified by police, was taken to Morton Plant Hospital with minor injuries.

The robber was described as white or Hispanic male with a thin build, standing about 5-foot-10, according to police. He was wearing gray pants, a green hooded sweatshirt and a green shirt over his face at the time of the robbery.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Clearwater Police Department at (727) 562-4242 or send an email to tips@myclearwater.com. They can also contact Crime Stoppers of Pinellas County at 1-800-873-TIPS or text a tip and CWPD to 847411.
