CLEARWATER — Belleair Elementary School and a nearby day care center were briefly placed on lockdown this afternoon after police received a report of an armed person in the area.
A man told police that he was chased by a man with a gun in the 1100 block of Lakeview Road, near the elementary school and the Building Blocks day care center.
The schools were locked down at 12:20 p.m. Police officers searched the area but didn't find an armed suspect. They believe he fled the area in a vehicle.
The lockdown was lifted shortly before 1 p.m.
Clearwater police have not determined if the suspect was actually armed or why he was chasing the victim. No one was hurt.
