Clearwater teen indicted in connection with killing of woman found on Pinellas Trail

Times staff

A Clearwater teen was indicted Friday morning by a grand jury on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the slaying of a 41-year-old woman found dead on the Pinellas Trail last weekend, officials said.

Dewayne Xavier Jones, 18, was arrested early Tuesday in connection to Lydia Ann Tross' death after his family members, who found Tross' wallet in Jones' possession, tipped off police.

On Friday, more than a dozen people, including Clearwater police homicide detectives, AmeriCorps members, and volunteers, searched west of the trail for any evidence after much of the overgrowth was cut back.

Police are asking anyone with information to call (727) 562-4242.
