Clearwater woman charged in fatal Bayside Bridge crash

CLEARWATER — A Clearwater woman was charged with DUI manslaughter Monday following a Florida Highway Patrol investigation into an October crash south of the Bayside Bridge.

Veronica Herrera, 32, was driving her 2006 Nissan Altima south on the bridge on Oct. 27, authorities said. Just after leaving the bridge she failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crossed the median. The car came to rest in a northbound lane of the road.

Herrera's passenger, Noi Pinhero, 45, was partially thrown from the car, the Highway Patrol said. The Bartow resident later died of her injuries at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Herrera is being held at the Pinellas County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
