TARPON SPRINGS — A 74-year-old doctor slain inside his home two months ago died from several gunshot and stab wounds to his head and neck, according to court records released Wednesday.
On May 28, Dr. Steven Patlin Schwartz's wife arrived at their home at 1310 Belcher Drive and found the house had been burglarized. Drawers in her bedroom were open and money, jewelry, and watches were missing, records show.
She called police. Inside, police dogs found Schwartz's body near the garage. A nearby exterior door and frame with signs of forced entry were removed for analysis, records state.
Police did not find any weapons on the property, but a butcher knife was reported missing.
No arrests have been made, but detectives believe the doctor, who had a Dunedin practice, was targeted.
Schwartz's family is offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
