Shop owner charged with keeping sales tax

An antique shop owner was arrested Monday on a state warrant on allegations she embezzled $6,000 in sales tax.

Lonnaize Monteiro, 59, owner of Peddler's Village, 14330 Seventh St., collected sales tax from customers "during various periods in 2010, lasting through periods in 2012" and never sent the funds to the state, according to a press release from the Florida Department of Revenue.

Monteiro, of 11027 Fort King Road, was arrested on a theft of state funds felony charge. She has since been released from Land O'Lakes jail after posting $5,000 bail.
