Dade City police: Baby left outside with drug pipe in pocket

DADE CITY — A 21-year-old woman was arrested Friday after leaving a 9-month-old child alone in a yard in a toy car with a broken glass drug pipe in the child's pocket, authorities said.

A neighbor found the child and called 911 on Nov. 7. An officer waited for "several hours" for Katherine Jean Selvage to return to the Dade City house, but she never returned, according to a Dade City Police Department report.

The report states Selvage was located and arrested Friday — nine days after the child was left behind. She faces a charge of child neglect, as well as an unrelated charge of false verification of ownership.

Selvage, of 13602 23rd St. in Dade City, remained Monday at the Pasco jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
