DADE CITY — Pasco County sheriff's detectives on Sunday charged an 18-year-old man with first-degree murder in last week's shooting of a man found in the street.
Miguel Angel Ibarra, who already was in custody on unrelated burglary and grand theft charges, was booked into the Land O'Lakes Jail shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin said.
According to Tobin, this is what happened:
A witness told officials that Ibarra, of 37524 Martin Luther King Blvd., Dade City, confronted Armando Uribe Jr. on Tuesday about an earlier dispute and pointed a gun at him. The witness said Ibarra shot Uribe several times in the back.
Uribe, 39, was found shot three times in front of 14922 Dade St. at 1:28 a.m. Tuesday.
Ibarra told investigators he was at home asleep from 9:30 p.m. to the time of the shooting. He provided a witness of his own, but that witness poked holes in the story. The witness said the two of them met before the killing, and Ibarra was upset with Uribe and going to look for him.
Two days after the fatal shooting, Ibarra was arrested and charged with stealing more than $3,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 16600 block of Spring Valley Road in Dade City.
Bail was set at $20,000 for the burglary and grand theft charges. It had not been set Sunday on the murder charge.
