Dade City woman killed, man arrested in stabbing

DADE CITY — A woman was stabbed to death Monday by a man who slashed at her as she fled from his Dade City apartment, police said.

Witnesses called 911 about noon to report a man chasing and stabbing a woman on Coleman Avenue, just east of 21st Street, according to the Dade City Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a passerby had taken 25-year-old Stephanie Nicole Ross to a hospital with multiple stab wounds.

Police then went to the 37020 Coleman Ave., where they found a bleeding Lucious Smith standing in his apartment. Smith, 53, was treated at a hospital, then arrested.

Ross died at the hospital about 1:30 p.m.

Police did not disclose the circumstances surrounding the stabbing or the relationship between Ross and Smith, nor did they say what charges Smith will face. Officers were still processing the crime scene late Monday afternoon.
