Deputies arrest man in Palm River armed robbery

TAMPA — A witness pursued a gunman who robbed a Palm River convenience store Thursday morning, authorities said.

Hillsborough County deputies later arrested the suspect, Alberto Romero, 19, of Tampa, on an armed robbery charge.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the robbery happened about 7:30 a.m. at the Git-N-Go at 6912 Causeway Blvd. A gunman robbed a clerk of cash and ran. A witness saw the man running and gave chase in his car. Deputies said the suspect pointed his gun at the witness several times.

The witness, whose name was not released, called authorities. Deputies said they found Romero about a quarter mile away from the store. He had the cash taken in the robbery and admitted to the crime, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies did not say how much money was taken during the robbery, but jail records show it was less than $300.

Romero was being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail.
