FHP arrests man in Pasco hit-and-run that injured bicyclist; second man sought

HOLIDAY — HOLIDAY — Authorities have arrested the 20-year-old man they say was driving a stolen SUV in the hit-and-run crash that hurt a 14-year-old bicyclist and went viral.

On Wednesday afternoon, mosquito control workers found the gold 1998 Ford Expedition in the woods behind a U.S. 19 car dealership, but their main suspects were still missing.

Later that night, Pasco County sheriff's deputies spotted Christopher Michael Try at 2905 U.S. 19 in Holiday. He was detained there around 10:20 p.m.

Later, FHP troopers arrested Try, of Hudson, who is being held at the Land O'Lakes Detention Center in lieu of $10,500 bail.

He faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Another man, 23-year-old Kevin Wilson, was being sought for questioning.

According to state records, Try has a long history of arrests. Two years ago, he sentenced to probation after pleading no contest to domestic battery. Since then, he's been accused of violating probation, possessing marijuana and throwing or shooting a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling or car.

Surveillance video of Monday afternoon's crash shows the Ford Expedition careening down a suburban street in Pasco County.

The car is seen swerving wildly, losing control on Moog Road. It ran a stop sign, swerved into a yard, struck a vehicle and then plowed into Johnny Walsh, who was riding his bike southbound on the sidewalk.

In the video, Walsh is seen walking around after the crash. Walsh was taken to Florida Hospital North Pinellas in Tarpon Springs for treatment of minor injuries, according to the FHP.

Troopers say Try was identified earlier Wednesday by Walsh and a second teen who was injured, through separate photo lineups.

Times news researcher Caryn Baird contributed to this report.
