Deputies identify Tampa man stabbed by store clerk during robbery (w/video)

TAMPA — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video and identified the robbery suspect who was stabbed by a convenience store clerk in the University area on Sunday morning.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Daniel Dwayne Eubanks, 44, of Tampa, on charges of armed robbery, grand theft and aggravated battery, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said the surveillance video showed Eubanks entering the Sunoco at 14516 N 22nd St. about 5:45 a.m. and demanding a money bag. Then he scuffled with the clerk, knocking over a set of shelves as the fight spilled back out into the store, according to the video, and fighting over a baseball bat.

Eubanks overpowered the clerk and took the bat, deputies said, and was then stabbed by the clerk in the abdomen. They continued to struggle until the clerk ran outside and alerted nearby deputies. Eubanks took a brown paper bag full of cash from behind the counter and fled on foot.

Anyone with information about this case or Eubanks' whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200. To be eligible for a cash reward, call Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477 or send an anonymous tip online via www.crimestopperstb.com or through the P3 Tips Mobile smartphone app.
