Deputies lock down two Tampa schools in search for burglary suspects

TAMPA — Authorities placed two Tampa schools on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday afternoon as they investigated a report of an armed burglary of a nearby home.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call at 2:38 p.m. reporting that two or three people with guns had kicked in the door of an unoccupied home at 4513 W Knollwood St., officials said. The responding deputies saw two people running from the home.

Leto High School and Pierce Middle School were both placed on lockdown while deputies searched the area for the suspects, authorities said.

One suspect was found and arrested during the search, authorities said. Deputies also confiscated a gun.

The suspect's identity and nature of the charge has not yet been released.

The schools were reopened at 3:30 p.m. The search for other suspects is ongoing.
