HUDSON — A 44-year-old man is accused of stabbing another man twice during an altercation Tuesday night.
James Zangari was arrested a few hours after the incident and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is accused of stabbing Richard Smorschok, 37, in the "backside" and on his shoulder near Superior Sheds at 12433 U.S. 19, a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report states.
Authorities said Smorschok and a woman, Rebekah McClean, 43, were hanging out near the shed business about 9:30 p.m. when Zangari approached them. Zangari told investigators he saw Smorschok grabbing McClean by her throat and, in trying to stop the battery, stabbed him in self defense, the report states. Smorschok was taken as taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. His injuries were non-life threatening, authorities said.
Zangari, of Port Richey, remained Wednesday at the Pasco jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
