Deputies seek car thief who set vehicle ablaze in Wimauma

WIMAUMA — Deputies are looking for a man who stole a car, drove it two miles, and then torched it before running away.

The man, whose identity was not immediately known, stole a 2007 Chevrolet Impala from the parking lot of a Circle K, at 5133 Highway 674, on Feb. 17 just after 12:30 a.m.

Surveillance video from the store shows the suspect drive the car out of the parking lot and head east on Highway 674.

Deputies said the man then abandoned the Impala at the intersection of West Lake Drive and Janes Drive — but not before he set the car on fire.

As the car burned, the man ran away, deputies said.

Anyone with information about the crime, the suspect or his whereabouts has been asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200 or the Tip Line at 1-800-873-8477.

Contact Marissa Lang at or (813) 226-3386.
