Deputies: Tampa man attacked in his apartment by armed men later dies

TAMPA — A 37-year-old man died after he was attacked at his apartment late Monday by two men with a gun, deputies said.

George Sherry was inside his apartment, No. 328, at 14606 N 42nd St. with four others when there was a knock at the door, officials said.

He opened the door to find two men. They began to fight. One of the men pistol-whipped Sherry and then shot him, deputies said.

Sherry was taken to Florida Hospital Tampa, where he later died, officials said.

The two unidentified suspects remained at large Tuesday. Deputies believe they fled in a small- to mid-sized sedan that is beige or gold.
