LAND O'LAKES — It was near midnight Thursday when a caller complained to 911 about a black Saturn sitting in a McDonald's parking lot where people were "injecting something in their arm with a baby in the car."
Deputies found Samantha Jo Jackson, 22, in the back seat holding a 3-month-old girl, a Pasco sheriff's report states. Poking out from under the baby's car seat beside Jackson, the deputy spotted a syringe. White powder residue, which the report notes was "consistent with drug use," covered the baby's seat.
Witnesses told deputies they saw Jackson and Sammy Maldonado, 21, passing the baby back and forth as they prepped syringes to shoot up and snorted drugs off the dashboard.
Deputies found two more syringes, one in the back pocket of the driver's seat and another on the floorboard, according to the report. They found fresh track marks on Maldonado's arm and an 8 milligram pill of Dilaudid, synthetic heroin, in his pocket.
Jackson, of 1601 Tailor Road in Lutz, was arrested on charges of child neglect and possession of paraphernalia. She remained in the Land O'Lakes jail Monday in lieu of $10,150 bail.
Maldonado, of 1351 Maybury Drive in Holiday, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. He remained in jail in lieu of $5,150.
