SPRING HILL — Sheriff's detectives and forensic analysts on Thursday were investigating a homicide at the Holiday Inn Express on U.S. 19 in Hernando County.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred in a parking lot outside the hotel, at 3528 Commercial Way in Spring Hill. Detectives initially responded to a call about 3 a.m.
The Sheriff's Office did not release the male victim's name or age.
Hotel guest Felisha Infinger, 23, told the Tampa Bay Times that she and her family were woken by detectives about 6 a.m. Another guest, who wanted to remain anonymous, said detectives woke his family about 7 a.m.
The detectives asked whether the guests had "heard anything" or "seen anyone" during the night. Several told the Times they had not.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Denise Moloney said detectives were continuing to "gather facts and piece together the investigation."
"Once the facts have been confirmed, we will be able to release more information," Moloney said.
Ryan Cornelius, the hotel's general manager, issued a prepared statement.
"The safety of our guests is our top priority," the statement said. "We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation by local law enforcement."
