Disabled Pinellas man accused of molesting girl

DUNEDIN — A 45-year-old disabled man was arrested Thursday, charged with molesting a girl under the age of 12.

Robert Lance Cohen, of 1370 Heather Ridge Blvd., No. 105, is being held without bail in the Pinellas County Jail.

According to an affidavit from a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office detective, Cohen molested the girl just before Christmas 2007 at the Main Street location where he was residing at the time.

Cohen had a conversation with the girl about "the birds and the bees," masturbated in front of her, then had the girl touch his genitals, according to the affidavit. The girl, who was not identified, was under the age of 12 at the time, according to the statement.

Several months later, sometime between August and October 2008, Cohen again asked the girl to touch him, the report shows. This incident occurred at Cohen's new residence in Clearwater.

The report said that the girl moved away from him when Cohen put his hand down the back of her shorts.

It's not clear from the affidavit how Cohen knew the girl.

Cohen is charged with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under the age of 12 and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

He was arrested on a warrant at 10:15 a.m., on the grounds of the Bay Pines VA Medical Center complex at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., according to an arrest report.
