East Hillsborough shooting leaves one dead, one in hospital

RIVERVIEW — Hillsborough County deputies say one man died and another was critically injured after exchanging gunfire inside an apartment late Thursday.

The shootings occurred about 10:50 p.m. at 10213 Palermo Circle, inside a gated community called the Estates, near the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway and Falkenburg Road.

Two men and a woman were in Apartment 102 when two gunmen knocked on the door, went inside and opened fire, deputies said.

The shots killed Mike Daniels, 20, who lived there, and injured one of the gunmen, deputies said.

Just before midnight, helicopters flew overhead and authorities with dogs were inside the complex.

Michael Crossno, 20, of Wooster, Ohio, who was shot during the exchange, was listed in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.

The other gunman fled the scene and has not been found.

The shootings remain under investigation.

It appears as if those involved knew each other, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

"We believe the apartment was targeted specifically, and we believe it was possibly drug related," she said, adding that drug paraphernalia was found inside the apartment.
