Don Spirit's voice is remarkably calm as he speaks to a 911 dispatcher:

"I just shot my daughter and shot all my grandkids. And I'll be sitting on my step and when you get here I'm going to shoot myself,'' he said in the call to the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office last Thursday afternoon.

Spirit, 51, had killed his daughter, Sarah Spirit, 28, and her six children, Kaleb Kuhlmann, 11; Kylie Kuhlmann, 9; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Destiny Stewart, 5; Brandon Stewart, 4; and Alanna Stewart, who was born in June.

"Everyone of them are dead,'' Spirit says on the 911 call, which was released Tuesday.

When deputies arrived at the mobile home on a dirt road in the tiny town of Bell, they spoke briefly with Spirit before he killed himself.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate that all deaths were the results of gun shots from a .45-caliber hand gun, according to a news release from the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office. The children's bodies were in various locations inside the house. Their mother's body was outside. The final autopsy report will not be complete for several weeks.

On the 911 call, the dispatcher asks Spirit to stay on the line with her until help arrives.

"No, I'm not that, I'll wait for them to get here,'' he replies. "When they get here I'm going to shoot myself on my back step. Alls I'm doing is waiting for them.''

A few seconds later, the dispatcher whispers to someone else, "I need help.''
