Feds bust Army soldier stationed at MacDill on child porn charges

TAMPA — An Army soldier stationed at MacDill Air Force Base was arrested by federal agents Wednesday on child pornography and obscenity charges.

Thomas Meyer, 42, of Valrico began online relationships with a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl and what he thought was a 13-year-old year girl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The supposed 13-year-old actually was an undercover detective in Kentucky, prosecutors said.

Meyer received nude photos from the Pennsylvania girl and had conversations with her online where they discussed meeting for sex, prosecutors said.

The Kentucky detective received an explicit video of Meyer as well as other pornography and requests for nude pictures of the fake teen, prosecutors said.

Meyer was charged with transportation of child pornography, attempted production of child pornography and transfer of obscene matter to an individual under the age of 16.
