Fire in vacant Hillsborough home reveals small marijuana growing operation

TAMPA — An early morning fire inside a vacant house led to the discovery of a small marijuana growing operation, officials said.

The fire broke out before 2 a.m. inside the house at 11309 Hollyglen Drive, off Gunn Highway in northwestern Hillsborough County, authorities said. Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the flames.

Afterward, firefighters say they found nine marijuana plants and several bags of previously harvested plants Sheriff's detectives were called to investigate.

It was not immediately clear to whom the plants belonged or how the fire started.
