A former teacher accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old student denied the allegations against her Tuesday.

Elisha Kingsley, 39, a former substitute teacher at the Canterbury School of Florida, was arrested Monday and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Deputies said the arrest came at the end of a nearly month-long investigation.

"This young man was not truthful with law enforcement," said Summer Goldman, Kingsley's attorney. "We emphatically deny the allegation."

Deputies said Kingsley and the boy began texting each other in mid June, after she befriended him while teaching at Canterbury. According to investigators, they met at locations throughout the county.

Canterbury officials released a statement saying Kingsley resigned from her position before the allegations came to light, and reported the matter to DCF as soon as they were made aware of the situation.
