Former Hillsborough teacher facing child porn charge

RIVERVIEW — A Riverview man who resigned in April as a teacher at Strawberry Crest High School was arrested Saturday on a charge of possessing child pornography, Hillsborough County jail records show.

Carlos Marcell Dixon, 33, was released Sunday on $2,000 bail after his arrest on the felony charge just before midnight.

Hillsborough school district spokesman Steve Hegarty confirmed Sunday that Dixon resigned in April but said additional information about Dixon's position, possibly including the reason for his resignation, were unavailable on the weekend. The Dover school's website lists him as a physical education teacher.

In 2011, Dixon was one of several people presented with the Superior Service Award by the Pi Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in Tampa.

According to a website for the fraternity, Dixon mentored students at Chamberlain High, Armwood High and Jennings Middle.

He could not be reached Sunday for comment.
