Former pain clinic owner accused of trafficking in prescription drugs

CLEARWATER — An investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs led to the arrest Tuesday of a former pain clinic owner who sold her personal medications, according to Pinellas County sheriff's deputies.

Renee DeMasso, 42, of Tarpon Springs, had prescriptions for oxycodone and hydrocodone that she obtained through her health insurance, deputies said. A monthslong investigation found that DeMasso was selling the drugs.

DeMasso was arrested Tuesday near her home and booked in the Pinellas County Jail on charges of trafficking in illegal drugs and a probation violation.

She previously owned two pain clinics — the UR Medical Group Clinic at 8800 49th St. in Pinellas Park and the JAR Medical Group Clinic at 11589 Seminole Blvd. in Largo, deputies said. Both businesses closed in 2010.
