A former substitute teacher in the Pasco schools was taken into custody Tuesday, accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Anthony Germani, 20, of Omaha Circle in Spring Hill engaged in sexual activity with a teenage girl between July and December last year, deputies said. The activity started when the girl was 14 years old.

On Monday, the girl participated in a controlled recorded phone call with Germani in which their sexual activity was discussed, the Sheriff's Office said. During the call, Germani told the teen to lie to her parents "as he stated this could ruin his life," according to his arrest report.

Germani had been hired by the school district as a substitute teacher last February, according to school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe. Administrators learned of the his arrest Wednesday and fired him.

The Sheriff's Office said Germani did not meet the girl at school.

Germani was charged with lewd and lascivious battery. He was released from the Land O'Lakes Detention Center on Wednesday after posting $10,000 bail.
