Fired athletics coach accused of theft

A former Gaither High School substitute teacher and athletics coach was arrested Monday and charged with grand theft. He is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from the school, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Charles Lattimore, 52, who helped coordinate athletic events during the 2014-15 school year, was fired in May when the gate money he was in charge of fell $6,800 short, deputies said. At the time, he told school officials the money had been stolen by someone else.

The Sheriff's Office opened an investigation, and an audit of the account revealed $9,852 was missing, deputies said.

Lattimore was being held at the Hillsborough County jail on $2,000 bail.
